Why School District Websites Must Be Accessible
Public school districts are local government entities subject to ADA Title II requirements. Parents, students, and community members with disabilities must be able to access school information, enrollment forms, lunch menus, bus schedules, board meeting minutes, and educational resources online.
West Virginia has the highest rate in the United States (CDC), making website accessibility especially critical for school communities.
Under the DOJ's updated rule (28 CFR Part 35), school district websites must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards by April 26, 2027 (populations over 50,000) or April 26, 2028 (populations under 50,000).
